 Volcanic Hazards in the UAE There are 127 volcanoes as of January 9 2024. Saudi Arabia has some volcanoes and in fact it is active. There is volcanic activity on an Arabian plate locates on the eastern side of the Red Sea rift. There is a large part of of volcanic field and its known as the Harrat Khaybar, which is named after a city that lays on the western side. However there is only one eruption recorded which took place in early islamic times during the 7th century CE. The white volcanoes In the center of the Harrat Khaybar lays a rare kind of silica comendite that makes it appear white.The two biggest are Jebel Abiadh and the Jebel Bayda.  The northeastern part of this country is the most seismically active. Earthquakes are not common in the United Arab Emirates, they do experience tremors however and this is specifically in Iran. There are 7.0 earthquakes that cause damage within a radius of over 100 kilometers. The most recent earthquake that has taken place was in the province of Hormozgan and it measured 6.4. The reason in which this place is high risk for earthquakes is because of the tectonic plates at the Gulf of Oman when one shift below the other causing a tremendous quake. Something that we can do in dealing with this, is really informing ourselves how we can stay safe during times like these.   The Arabian plate seperatd from Africa approximately 25 million years agoThe United Arab Emirates is located on the Arabia Plate, the type of plate boundary closest to this country is a divergent plate boundary. This country lies very close to to a belt of powerful seismic activity. This country sometimes experiences tremors without any affect because of the Zagros mountain belt. Thankfully the United Arab Emirates has no earthquake fault line.   The United Arab emirates is known for it's immensely large skyscrapers and it's oil industry. This place is also known for its grand mall a lot of sand. Their staple food is Shawarma, this consists of thin cut meat stacked in an inverted cone and slowly roasted. This place is also known for all of the fantastic things that you are able to buy with petro-dollars. The country's largest city is Dubai, a playground for international architects.  The most popular natural disasters in this country are, earthquakes, heavy rain, sand storm and fog. Heavy rains caused floods in the United Arab Emirates lasting from July 27-29 in 2022. Earthquakes, tropical storms, floods, and landslides are rapid natural hazards that this country faces. IN addition to thunderstorms, this country can also be affected by tropical cyclones however this is relatively rare for this country.
