Earthquakes

The northeastern part of this country is the most seismically active. Earthquakes are not common in the United Arab Emirates, they do experience tremors however and this is specifically in Iran. There are 7.0 earthquakes that cause damage within a radius of over 100 kilometers. The most recent earthquake that has taken place was in the province of Hormozgan and it measured 6.4. The reason in which this place is high risk for earthquakes is because of the tectonic plates at the Gulf of Oman when one shift below the other causing a tremendous quake.Iran earthquake: Five killed and hundreds injured

Something that we can do in dealing with this, is really informing ourselves how we can stay safe during times like these. For example there is the app, Myshake that can let you know when to take cover seconds before a shake. This earthquake warning uses ground motion sensors to detect earthquakes.

  1. Hello Jasmine!
I have really enjoyed reading your blog post! I find it very interesting that the United Arab Emirates had experienced a 6.4 earthquake. I had no Idea that they had tectonic plates at the Gulf of Oman. Great work!
